White Pelicans have great wingspans of 6 to 9 feet. They winter in Everglades National Park. These beautiful birds begin a long flight to their summer breeding grounds in early April. They fly to freshwater lakes in the U.S. and Canada. |
Osprey large bird of prey, is called the "fish hawk" because it eats mostly fish.They hover high above the water, searching for fish under the water. When they spot one they swoop to the surface of the lake or river with their wings folded into the body. With talons extended they plunge feet first into the water and grab the fish, a total suprise attack. |

Southern Bald Eagle has wingspan of 6-7 feet. Females are bigger than males. Adults have white head and tail and brown bodies.The eyes, feet and bill are yellow. Juveniles are brown with scattered white feathers.They eat mostly fish, but also ducks, coots and other water birds. They seize the food using their strong talons to snatch it from the water. Florida supports more breeding southern bald eagles than any other state in the U.S. |
